Overview

Malta is a small island in the Mediterranean, approximately 90 km south of Sicily, located between Italy and Libya. It is a beautiful, underrated country with stunning views.

The Dingli cliffs are located just off the village of Dingli and offer incredible panoramic views along the coastline.  Ta’ Dmejrek is a part of this and also the highest point in the country at 253m above sea level.

The cliffs have become a good tourist attraction in the country, offering lovely coastal walks with a fantastic view of both Filfa and the Mediterranean sea. Along the Dingli Cliffs is a small white chapel, which is dedicated to St Mary Madgalene. You can visit this chapel whilst walking along the coast.

How to get there

Malta is easily accessible by most airlines, particularly many low-budget airlines. You can also access the island via ferry from Sicily, Italy.

You can reach Ta’ Dmejrek or the Dingli Cliffs easily by hiring a car from the airport and it is simply a 25 minute drive. Upon leaving the airport, head west. As you get closer you will begin to see signs for Dingli, the nearby village.

Continue on and as you get closer you will see the classic white dome of the radar station. Follow this road south-east and then take a left turn into a small road. Here is where you can park your car. From this point you can now begin your climb up to the summit.

The Route

The route is very simple. Begin by walking up towards the Madagdalena Chapel. From the chapel, head down to the road junction and follow the road along the cliffs until you reach the first Hill. This is Ta’Dmejrek, the highest point in Malta. Walk uphill. There is nothing notable to mark the highest point, but you will see some marble slabs on steel poles which signify this.
