As many of you know, I’m a big fan of hiking and trekking and next year I’m tackling my biggest challenge yet; Mount Everest in Nepal.
Having never travelled to Nepal before, I’m excited to discover a new country and I have been researching the top things to do while I’m there. Below you will find my top 7 discoveries, and as I’ll already be summiting Everest, nothing else on my to-do list includes trekking!
Go on a Jungle Safari in Chitwan National Park
For those that are into nature or love wildlife, this one is for you. Nepal is actually extremely diverse and in the lowlands in the south of Nepal lies Chitwan National Park, where you can spot Elephants, Rhinos and even (if you’re lucky) the infamous Bengal Tiger.
Visiting The Temples of Kathmandu
Visiting the temples of Kathmandu is high up on my to-do list.
Boudhanath Temple is one of the most famous Buddhist temples in Kathmandu and described by tripadvisor as one of the top things to do in the city. Many devotees are found at this temple as well as the traditional nepalese prayer flags.
Pashupatinath Temple is a sacred Hindu temple found in Kathmandu and is aptly named after Lord Pashupatinath, whom the temple is dedicated to. You can watch traditional cremations being performed on the banks of the Bagmati River here.
Swayambhunath Temple is otherwise known as the Monkey Temple! For those that want a little nature as well as visiting the temples, this one is for you! It also boasts some incredible views of the city.
Bungee Jump
For all my fellow adrenaline Junkies out there – Nepal doesn’t let us down! Just outside of Kathmandu you can find the worlds 9th highest bungee jump (standing at 160m) at The Last Resort complex.
Skydiving in Nepal
Keeping on the subject of adrenaline rushes; how does skydiving in front of Mount Everest sound?
Flying up to 23,000 ft in a helicopter, you are able to tandem skydive next to the works highest peak and land in Amadablam Basecamp which stands at 15,000 ft.
Canyoning
Yep, you can go Canyoning Nepal! It looks like an incredible way to see more of what nature Nepal has to offer and to discover its jungle, waterfalls and rivers. This would be an amazing thing to do with a group of travel buddies!
Visit Buddhas Birthplace
Did you know that Buddha was actually born in Nepal? Nope, me neither! In the city of Lumbini, you can actually visit Buddhas birthplace.
Practice Yoga!
Nepal is a very popular destination worldwide for its yoga practice, mainly because of its spiritual connections. And what an incredible destination to practice in!
There are many Yoga retreats in Nepal and I am particularly interested in outdoor retreats, where we can enjoy the nature that Nepal provides. In fact, there are many retreats in the Himalayas, which sound absolutely perfect!
